ORIGIN OF MANG JOSE: A Hero with a Cost

A SUPERHERO FOR HIRE. This is the thought behind the “Origin of Mang Jose: A Hero with a Cost.”, an animation produced and directed by the brilliant Apollo C. Anonuevo, head animator for TOEI Animation Philippines.

He has taken the lyrics of the infamous song “Mang Jose”, written by the legendary band, Parokya ni Edgar, and has made an animation version. If you aren’t familiar with the song, it’s about a small town superhero who goes to the city to find his fortune. He is a hero for hire. When someone is in trouble, he will rescue them as long as they pay him afterwards. To earn more money, he goes to the city and crosses paths with Mang Kanor, the boss of a big crime syndicate in the. Wills clash and this is where the adventure truly begins.

The ORIGIN OF MANG JOSE: A HERO WITH A COST was presented by Koji Kabuto Enterprises with the support and equipment from TOEI ANIMATION PHILS. INC., and DOWNTIME production.This short animation was one of the finalists for the 7th Philippine Animation Festival and was an Official Entry at the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival in the NEW WAVE Category for 2D Animation MTV.
